While it seems both like yesterday and 100 years ago that we started 2020, here we are in November. Can you believe it?
I personally love November because it contains my favorite holiday: Thanksgiving. November is a month to show thanks. To me, there is nothing better than being able to truly dedicate some time to showing people that we care. And with all the chaos of 2020, there’s no better time to apply this concept and show our customers how much we appreciate them.
Here are 8 ways to show thanks in your marketing this month:
-
Thank you notes
While this step is the simplest, it can take some time because the more personal it is, the better. You can do a general “Thank you for supporting us” email to all your customers. You can then have your team send personalized emails to their customers. If you really want to go for the personal touch, send letters in the mail. (Just double-check with your customers whether they’re working at home or in the office before you send them out).
-
Thank you messages for online engagements
What happens when someone downloads something from your website or attends a webinar? Do you have a default confirmation message? Swap out the default-message layout, and make it something different. Thank them for their interaction with you. Provide a next step for them, like reading a blog or checking out a video.
-
Free stuff
Do you have gated content on your website? Conduct an email campaign that gives away the content to your customers for free. You can still track to see who is clicking on the content, and you already have your customers’ contact information anyway.
If you have a new product or service that could really benefit your clients, send out a campaign offering a free trial.
-
Customer spotlights
Your customers are doing great things. Why not showcase them? Throughout your content marketing strategy, add in customer spotlights. You can do Q&A style interviews for your website, or highlight them and their services on your social media pages.
-
Surprises
This one is a little trickier with everyone working from home, but you can surprise your customers with a nice gift and ask them where to send it. Add a personal touch by allowing clients to choose from a few items. Sending giant chocolate boxes may work for some customers, but others have a distributed workforce. If you are sending a gift to one or two individuals at a company, try offering them a subscription for a few months to boxes (such as coffee, jerky, or murder mysteries) that can ship to homes and be enjoyed by families. Giving people options in the ways you thank them makes them understand that you really want to give them something they want.
-
Donations to the organization of their choosing
Another option you could give customers (or run totally separate from a gift-giving campaign) is to craft a “Do Good” campaign and donate funds to an organization of their choosing. Once all your donations are complete, you can create social media posts for them, mention the organization to give it promotion. You can also mention your client, thanking them for selecting such a great cause.
-
Milestone Celebrations
Use social media to celebrate and honor hitting certain milestones, and thank fans and followers. If you’re celebrating 50 years in business, create a video with photos throughout the years and clips of team members thanking customers.
You can also celebrate client successes and milestones. Share their biggest triumphs on social media. This is a great way to show thanks in marketing.
-
Virtual get-togethers
Pre-Covid, you probably met with clients in-person a few times a year, just to check in. Now, your teams may jump on a Zoom to discuss projects, but that personal, face-to-face relationship may be struggling. Create an email campaign offering a virtual get-together with your team and the client.
In-person meetings may have meant that only one or two people could engage with the client, but virtual allows more people to jump on the call. Take it up a notch by sending a gift card to a delivery service. Then your client can get a coffee or lunch delivered during the call, in order to mimic a lunch or coffee meeting.
Conclusion
The best advice for showing thanks throughout November (or any time) is to really keep your customer in mind. Don’t just do something for the sake of doing it. Make it have a purpose.
